Last Sunday, the archers of SWWU made their way to Swansea for the first in-person leg of the academic year. Crossing the Severn bridge to see incomprehensible yet familiar road signs is an event in and of itself, not to mention the fantastic archery on display at the Swansea University sports hall.
Luke Burch made it two from two, winning the open recurve category with a 550 WA18, despite some issues with the bottom target. The runner up spot was taken by Bath’s Jonathan Jackson, followed SWWU President Alex Williams, rocking a minimalist setup sans-side rods. On the women’s side, Aber’s Lauren Harrage took the win, followed by Lily Barrett from Bristol matching her PB in second, followed by Priya Sitlani from Bath.
Sporting a new Mykan with plenty of weight on the front, Joe Maskell put in a dominant display, winning the open recurve category with a 493, followed by Aber’s Jack Langston and Swansea’s Dan Hickman. Aber’s Abi Cox won women’s barebow with a 412, followed by Madi Perry and Jasmine Davies from Bath and Swansea respectively. Oli Coupe convincingly won the open compound division, and Segh Gilham and Rose Sinclair took home the longbow golds.
Our archers only have a week to recover and re-fletch, as we are heading to Bath next weekend!
