Hello and welcome all to the start of a jam packed outdoor season, we’ve got back to back events for 3 weeks so I hope you are ready for an onslaught of SWWU content.
By the looks of it we had lovely weather for our first outdoor competition and I hope everyone had a nice time standing in a field for a few hours. As in the case with every outdoor competition we had people deciding that an archery range is a great place to explore with footballers and cyclists creating some issues. They could have been in real danger with the wind taking lots of arrows into the grass. Personally my favourite part of outdoors is looking for arrows so I’m gutted I couldn’t be there.
Another important event was that we held our SWWU AGM to elect next year’s committee and I can confirm that we have elected 4 out of the 5 roles (helps that all 4 are previous committee) and are still looking for a merch and socials officer so please get in touch if you are interested! Henry, our past and now future social media officer, even made an appearance to celebrate his victory by showing up literally on the last end. But at least he came and thats what matters.
Before we get into the results we’d like to thank the Exeter lot for helping run the SWWU, in particular Viv, Lilly and Chris for helping organise and support on the day. Without people like you and help from all the clubs in general we wouldn’t be able to do this!
Now to the bit that you’ve all been waiting for, the results:
Starting with REM, Bristol’s Alex Williams continues his run of form, taking the win with a confident lead. Bath’s Miles Pemberton steps up for silver, and Exeter’s Luke Burch nabs third after holding off his teammate Darrell McFaweya. On the women’s side (REW), it was a quieter field, but t
hat didn’t stop Hana Cheng from Bristol from putting on a strong performance to claim gold. Exeter’s Cara Mackrory-Jamieson follows up in second.
For RNM, Bath’s Jonathan Jackson takes gold with a solid showing across all distances. Plymouth’s Charlie Kay secures silver, and his teammate Joshua Hutchinson rounds out the top three.
Over in RNW, Bristol’s Mina D’Raven-Smith shines again, taking gold ahead of Bath’s Priya Sitlani. Exeter’s Eve Shipp comes in third after a big push in the final distance.
Now onto the barebow divisions! In BEM, Exeter’s Arthur Fill continues to impress with another gold. UWE’s Cynan Sheridan snags silver, and Plymouth’s Parker Fewings claims bronze. For BEW, Swansea’s Naeve Hopkins takes the top spot, flying solo but shooting strong.
Longbow time! Rex Zhang of Bristol brings home gold in LEM, with Bath’s Harry Semple taking silver. In the LNW category, Bath’s Nathanial Redding takes the win. On the women’s side, Rhiannon Wood secures another gold for UWE in LEW, with Rebecca Ogston of Swansea earning silver.
Compound results saw a solid performance from Corey Richardson of Plymouth to take gold in CEM, with Swansea’s Sawyl Lane in second. In CEW, Swansea’s Caitlin Willoughby proves unstoppable once again, taking gold with the top score of the day.
The teams have ended with Bath securing top spot in the Experienced division with Exeter second and Bristol a distant third. For the Novices, Bath once again takes gold with Plymouth second and Bristol third again. Swansea continues with another Compound gold leaving silver for Plymouth.
This leaves us in a very tight spot for the last competition with 2 points in it for the Experienced division and only 1 in the Novice division. This means that its all to play for in Bristol so see you there!
