The first SWWU of the academic year is always a postal leg. From the arctic tennis courts of Exeter, to the climbing wall backdrop of Plymouth, Bristol’s expansive Coombe Dingle sports complex of Bristol and more, our archers opened their accounts for the year with some impressive Portsmouth scores.
Exeter’s Luke Burch won the open recurve category, dropping one in the blue on the way to an impressive 575. Bristol’s Alex Williams, found himself in an Exeter sandwich in second place, followed by Dazz McFaweya in third. On the women’s side, Bristol’s Magdalena Kazmierczak took the win with a 557. Cardiff’s Samantha Roberts just pipped Bath’s Priya Sitlani to the runner up spot.
Joe Maskell made a triumphant return to SWWU, now competing for Plymouth. He shot an impressive 544, trailed by Aber’s Jack Langston and Exeter’s Quinnan Lee-Almond. Cardiff’s Madison Perry secured first place with 460 on the women’s side, followed by Aberystwyth duo Abi Cox and Asher Arnold Douglas.
Compound and longbow could not boast the same field sizes as the other divisions, but there were some very impressive scores nonetheless, most notably Cardiff’s Oli Coupe with a 572 compound score, and UWE’s Rhiannon Wood posting a nice 420 with a stick and string.
