Bath win rain-lashed Plymouth SWWU

The Worcester Round.  For some archers, aiming at something other than gold is a welcome change of pace.  For others, it’s a round so tough it should be called a Scunthorpe instead.  On the 26th of January, the archers of SWWU gathered by the climbing wall of Lipscombe Cooperative academy, sheltering from the storm that tore its way through the southwest.

The open recurve category was denied it’s usual Luke vs Alex battle for the win.  Alex decided to shoot a five spot and promptly whiffed as many shots as a clumsy barman.  It fell to Bath’s Miles Pemberton to swoop in and take the win ahead of Exeter’s Luke Burch with a score of 284/300, with Dazz McFaweya completing the podium for Exeter.  Bath also won the women’s recurve category with Priya Sitlani.  Behind her was the closest podium battle of SWWU so far this season, with four archers covered by many points.  At the conclusion of the round, it was Bath’s Chloe Sagun and Exeter’s Chrisha Calunod.  Strong performances across both categories ensured yet another non-compound team victory for Bath.

Plymouth saw other standout performances.  The Cardiff compound team of Oli Coupe and Molly Jones scored 299 and 293 respectively on their way to a dominant compound team win.  As fantastic as a 299 is, it must be frustrating to come within a whisker of a clean round.  Plymouth’s Joe Maskell went four for four with his barebow open win on home turf and is now the only remaining undefeated archer of this season of SWWU.

This has been such a promising season for SWWU, rest assured I’ll be refreshing Ianseo every few minutes next weekend to keep up with how you all do at BUCS Southern Qualifiers!
